Gangsaws specially designed for this type of operation are used to cut blocks of marble and granite.
Types of gangsaws for cutting marble and granite
In the professional field, traditional gangsaws or multi-wire saws are generally used to make these cuts, i.e. machines that cut granite and marble blocks with a series of diamond wires that allow you to create slabs 10, 20, 30 mm thick or more.
TRADITIONAL GANGSAW
In traditional gangsaws, the granite block is cut with steel blades which drive the abrasive made with a mixture of metal grit, lime and water.
MULTI-WIRE SAW
In diamond wire machines, on the other hand, there is a wire with a diameter of 5 - 6 or 7 mm which has small steel cylinders to which synthetic diamond beads have been applied to the surface. In this case the abrasive is the diamond itself and only a jet of water is needed to keep it clean, cool and eliminate the waste.
Multiwire machines can be of two types: "fixed pitch" or "variable pitch"; variable one can modify the distance between wires and produce slabs in different thicknesses. Besides this difference the multiwires differ among them for the number of the diamond wires and for the thickness of the beam in the wire.
The cut of the multiwire is generally precise, and not very rough, compared to the traditional cut, allowing to improve the subsequent processing of the surface of the slabs.
